| Shadow staggered to her feet, wiping blood from under her wolf-like helm. Her black armor was dulled with a mixture of other's blood and her own. She fell back to one knee in the mud, breathing heavily, half leaning on one of her bloodstained sword. She knew that this wave of the enemy was not the forst, nor would it be the last.
She raised her head, making sure that none of the enemies were about to approach her, and allowed herself to collapse onto her side. Of course, the immenint attack on their dimension would have come on the time that the rest of her family were away for a month, staying in their place of birth, or with people that raised them. Shadow had chosen to return to Synairn, Shaeman was back in the demonic dimension, Vrael in the dimension of the dead, Raven was spending the month in the pocket dimension inside her own head, and the next generation were still in the Earthen dimension. Her mind had automatically sent out a distress call to any friendly minds that were open to her.
Shadow closed her eyes for a brief moment. No food and no sleep for four days, ever since the first wave of the attack had closed in on them. Pushing herself back up into a sitting position, she gazed over the battlefield. Blood lay in pools everywhere, some of the soldiers under her command lay in eternal sleep next to the black-swathed bodies of the other army. | |

| Twirling lights began to spin in a circle not far from where Shadow was sitting. Little by little, the lights became brighter, and thicker, and began to slow. A figure appeared in the middle, and threw an arm out sideways. The lights disappeared as his arm swept through them. The figure, who Shadow recognized as the assassin, Toryn, stood with his back facing to her. He turned around abruptly, and walked towards her, not even looking directly in her direction. He stared off into the distance, then glanced down, and crouched next to Shadow. "Are you alright?" he asked her, concern for the first time shining deeply in his eyes. "I brought you something," he removed a brown pouch from off his shoulder and gently placed it on the ground in front of her. "Some food and large flask of water, thought you might need it if you were sending a distress call," he said quietly. | |

| "Hello Toryn," Shadow said dully. She looked at the food and water for a few moments before taking a sip from the flask. "The army is too far spread out, and although we've stopped their advances for now, it's cost us so many lives." | |

| "...Well, I will do what I can," Toryn said, "Just rest, you need it." He said before standing up. "Where are the enemy coming from?" | |

| Shadow staggered to her feet, mainly leaning on her hand-and-a-half sword. Her other sword, a shorter blade, lay somewhere among the lost weaponry of the battlefield. "They're coming from all sides, we can't determine where exactly their stronghold is." | |

| Toryn put a firm hand on her shoulder, "You, need to rest. Just take a break for once, almost every time I see you, you are pushing yourself way too far, It's not good for your health. I can handle things for now, where are the nearest allies?" Toryn loosened his grip, then let his hand fall. | |

| "I'm just tired." Shadow said firmly. "The nearest allies are with the medics. Most are seriously injured." | |

| "We rest, until the next wave. It has been predicted for the day after tomorrow." Shadow said. "And I am a medic..." | |

| "I will wait as well then," Toryn said, taking a short walk over to a nearby rock to sit on. | |

| Shadow sat down again, closing her eyes to try and rest. She knew it would be hard to find peace in her mind during an interdimensional war, but if she didn't, she risked unleashing Kar's influence in her mind. | |
