A bad omen...

'That's what I thought,' Bart agreed, 'You flee your family to protect yourself but also your cared ones.' Bart's eyes glistened.
'I like that.' Bart continued. He looked at Shadow, who had her violet hair covering her face. 'Maybe you could help me,' Bart added.

Shadow looked up at Bart, a small smile on her face.
"Thank you..." She murmured.

Bart layed his right hand on Shadow's shoulder. Bart smirked. He looked at Shadow, then said, 'I'll try to protect you, too,' he said, coughing, 'But it's not like I have any experience in medical or mental attention. I only know the human anatomy. Approximately.'

"I will do my best to protect you too. Don't worry about healing," Shadow said with a smile. "Vrael wasn't the only one to train as a medic."

'Vrael', Bart repeated. He's the one who said that Shadow was dangerous, he thought, I wonder if she really is.
He remembered the scene he heard between Vrael and another person on that sort of communicater. He closed his eyes tight.
'Thank you, Shadow.'

"Welcome," Shadow murmured. She glanced at his expression, and frowned. She wondered what he was thinking, but refused to invade his mind.

Bart stood silent. He looked up at Shadow once more, his blood red eyes glistening in the dark winter night time. He then put his right elbow on his left arm, and stuck the beginning of his nose between his right hand's thumb and index. He looked at Shadow.
'Well, then, where shall we begin? I don't have a clue where to start for now, except that I know the object is outside Grenoble.'

"What exactly are we looking for?" Shadow asked. She glanced up at the moon, cursing quietly in her mind.

'Well,' Bart began, 'It's a lost object created by the Kraferrs. They used it in order to somehow survive. But, as the centuries passed, the Kraferrs died out of an unknown sickness only touching them. And the relic's secret was gone with the Kraferrs. Now only a few live. The relic has been probably passed on for the few centuries now, and it could be anywhere.'

Shadow nodded once, and raised her hand to Bart's face, but not touching it. She looked at him for permission to enter his mind.
"I need to memorise the energy signature..." She said quietly, trying to explain.

'Er, uh...' Bart stuttered, 'Ok?'
He didn't really know what to say. Would he feel anything? He thought that Shadow would try to locate the object in his mind, which is impossible, because he had never seen it, and he had only heard a rumour about it.
Every one that has ventured into the cave of the relic has never came back. It's like the walls moved...

Shadow gently placed two fingers on Bart's temple, closing her eyes to concentrate. His mindscape was peaceful, and she made sure that she kept away from the memories. She heard a phrase.
"Every one that has ventured into the cave of the relic has never came back. it's like the walls moved..."

Then she found what she was looking for. A faint melody that the person, unless he or she knew about it, would never hear. It was the signature of the person, an identity that is normally kept secret. From this, she deducted a rough idea of what the Kraferr sound would be like, and quickly removed herself from Bart's mind after committing the tune to memory.

'Did you...' Bart said, one eyebrow higher than the other, 'Just read my thoughts?' He pointed at Shadow, then smirked. 'If you read the correct sentence, the rumour is from the elders. I guess we could go meet one of the elders that live here, in the Ku' Rutiek clan, hiding itself nearby Gares. It roams about near it, trying to find food, or something useful.'
Bart's face darkened.
'There's only one bad thing about that, though...'

"I needed to find the Kraferr signature, I might be able to get a location." Shadow said apologetically. "And yes, I heard it. Strange, but it is possible."

'Don't worry,' Bart said, smiling, 'But we can't go see the Ku' Rutiek clan. Not now, at least, without a good reason.'
He looked at Shadow. His red eyes gleamed. 'That clan is the most warlike clan I've seen up until now. It's formed by twenty Kraferrs. The Kraferr that taught me how and why I got my Kraferr morphing powers came from there.'

Shadow nodded.
"Ok, perhaps we had better steer clear of there..." She mused aloud. She proceeded to hover a few feet in the air, legs crossed, as if she was meditating.

'Heh,' Bart said, smirking, and seeing that Shadow could levitate into the air, 'Nice. How can you do that?' His eyes glistened. A cold breeze shook some trees and unattached some leaves.

Shadow opened one eye.
"I trained." She said simply, and silently touched back to the ground again. "If the relic was made by the Kraferrs, then it should be north-west of here."

'North-west?' Bart asked, opening his eyes wide, 'B-but, how do you know that?' His red eyes glistened in the darkness. He jumped onto the statue. He searched in his mind for his internal compass. North west would be... he thought, on my right, if I'm correct.

"It's that way." Shadow said, pointing to the right, and slightly in front of her. "Let's move out, and I'll explain how I know on the way."

Bart jumped off the statue. He landed, making no noise. I'm still taking a risk by letting her come with me, he thought, the Outlaws will have more reasons to kill me.
Bart's face darkened at the thought. He then looked at Shadow, trying not to show his recent thought. He said, 'So, er, well, let's go.'

Shadow sensed the uncertainty, but couldn't sense why. She looked over her shoulder at him, a slight frown on her face. Sometimes she really hated her empathy.
"Yes, come on." She said, and began to stride away.

Bart followed Shadow, careful to not go under any lights. As Shadow and Bart passed them, they flickered as if they were big lit and yellow eyes blinking at the small pair. Bart seemed worried that a human could appear anytime soon, and surprise the two.

Shadow stopped briefly, sniffing the air before continuing onwards. The lights didn't bother her. It was all too normal with street lights, well, once they had finally invented lightbulbs anyway.

Bart stopped as Shadow halted. 'What?' he asked, his senses arising from his previously unalarmed body, 'Did you notice something?'
Bart laid his hand on the ground, using his acuted senses to try and see if anything was coming their way. He felt nothing. He heard nothing. He smelled nothing. He tasted nothing. But he saw something, that's for sure.
