Shadow's Reign, part two (CnP)

Shadow thanked Bart and waited a couple of minutes for the tea to steep before removing the teabag and taking a sip, glad of the warm liquid after the restless night. SHe curled her hands around the mug, allowing the warmth to seep into her hands. She missed her tail, which used to wake her in the morning by repeatedly whacking her head.

Bart sighed as he laid down the empty mug of coffee. He shook his messy hair, which had always been that way, except now it was worse. He leaned against the table on his arms, putting his hands together, rolling his thumbs. He glanced around the room discreetly, before settling his stare on Shadow.
He kept silent, wanting the calm atmosphere to last in the house, for once. Normally, when Dominique and Bart were alone, they would always wake up at the same time, and then either discuss or keep their mouthes shut throughout the whole day. And they weren't used to having visitors, especially ones like Shadow.

Shadow had been looking out the window, but she could feel his gaze on her. It was unsettling, and her began to chew her lip discreetly before she finally spoke.
"Why are you watching me?"

Bart shook his head hesitantly, smiling down at the table as he lowered his head.
"Eh," sorry," Bart replied quietly, scratching the back of his head, "it's just the whole... Parent-demon thing... Like, I mean, if you are the one trying to get out from inside of me, would that mean that my full demon form would be like yours? I don't quite understand..."

Shadow sighed, thinking, frowning slightly as she ran through what she knew in her head.
"In theory, that's right, but I don't know for certain."

"So do you think it's possible that my kraferric body actually goes against that, and may give birth to some... Monster or something?" Bart asked, lifting his eyes, but not in hope, mostly in desperation. If I go completely demonic, I want to be able to come out. I think Dominique talked about a spell that is able to do something for that, if I remember correctly. Except only she can perform it.

Shadow's hands tightened around the mugher teeth gritting.
"I don't know!" She growled, furious with herself. The life of her friend could be in danger, and there was nothing that she knew of that could tell her how it was in danger nor how to prevent it.

Bart looked down at the wooden table, pushing off from it with his knuckles of his clenched fists. He glared down at the table, wanting to know what would change from normally if Shadow was his demon-parent. He sighed deeply, lowering his head, letting his hair fall over his darkened face.

Shadow sighed, letting go of the mug before she broke it. Avoiding looking at Bart, she stood up, making her way back to the room Dominique had lent her for the duration of her stay on Earth. She called up another portal to the place where she kept all of her belongings now that she no longer owned a flat, looking for the appropriate attire for her visit to her old clan.

Bart looked up, noticing Shadow move to another room to do some other thing.He looked down at the floor, before swiftly turning around, and leaning on the shelf, putting his mug in the white sink. His fingers uncoiled from the small grab that the mug provided, and he laid his hand on his forehead tiredly, rolling his eyes.

Shadow sighed, standing in the room with her mask in one hand and the circlet in the other. She rolled her eyes mentally, moving back through to the other room, wondering about her choice to go in jeans and a hoodie rather than the usual dress that she would have had to wear if she had been coming from Aspheri.

Bart hopped onto the table, pulling his arms behind his head. He laid himself down, and stared blankly at the ceiling, flicking his foot at a normal beat, like if he had a song stuck in his head. He took a deep breath, closing his eyes just afterwards, thinking about what would happen today. He knew that with Shadow here, it would derive from the normal.

Shadow positioned the mask over her face, carefully putting the circlet on over it. She looked at Bart, who seemed to be happy enough lying on the table, but she spoke.
"I'm going to visit the clan, do you want to come?" She asked quietly, half hoping thathe would accept, and half hoping that he wouldn't.

Bart turned his head weakly to Shadow, lifting one eyebrow. He nodded once quickly, and he rolled off the table, landing on his feet. On the shelf, he grabbed a pen in a brown pot, and ripped a piece of paper from a sheet that had no importance to him. He scribbled down a message to Dominique, and he grabbed it, rereading himself. He laid the pen down on the shelf, as he flattened the paper on the table.
He turned to Shadow, shrugging. "Well, I'm ready, let's go."

Shadow nodded once, holding her hand out to Bart, not quite trusting his teleportation skills. She wondered what the clan's reaction to her was going to be. On one hand, she was the Princess of Darkness, but on the other hand she was still the person that they had rejected a year ago.

Bart hesitantly grabbed her hand, preferring to go kraferric at that moment before it was too late. Fur shot out of his skin, and he readjusted the position of his hands as not to scratch Shadow's with his claws. His tail sprouted from his spine, at the same moment as his eyes went red. He nodded once, preparing himself, closing his eyes.

Shadow closed her eyes, concentrating briefly and teleporting. She appeared a couple of kilometres away from the cottage that her clan held. She touched her mask, making sure that it was still in place before turning to Bart.
"I was about one kilometre out. Ready to meet the family?"

"Why wouldn't I be?" Bart asked, smiling slightly. "I mean, they don't bite. Okay, I haven't seen them for quite a while, but I don't think they changed... Much. Not as much as you, at least." Bart's tail twitched involuntarily, before flicking nervously at the air.

Shadow frowned slightly at Bart's comment about her changing, but dropped the subject from her mind. She had bigger things to worry about. Taking a deep breath, the demoness started to walk with a purposful stride in the direction of the house.

Bart sighed, and started walking with Shadow, keeping his hands in the pockets of his black trousers. His tail whipped at the air, before coiling around one of his arms tightly, making the purple fabric flex with it. Bart's footsteps were impossible to hear. The faint odor of plants and vegetation of the forest was pleasant to his smell, and the faraway chirping of birds slightly reassured him.

Shadow took a deep breath as the house came into sight, the small pegusi herd that Shadow had nurtured grazing around the cottage. She knew the names and parents of every single one of the equines standing there, as well as who rode them. She couldn't help but smile slightly behind her mask as she watched Cika and Shiraku walking out towards the herd.

Bart kept his calm, his confidence having grown in Shadow. But, even then, he didn't want to become too calm, to let his guard off, remembering what had happened at the lake, one year ago. And he didn't want to become too unsure, thus taking a risk of going demonic when something happens. His tail tightened around his leg, squeezing it in a manner a snake would catch its prey.
