A bad omen...

Bart stared at Raven. How did she do that? Why didn't I see the jewel before? What did she say?
Bart crouched next to Shadow, who just recently woke for no scientific reason Bart could find. He looked into Shadow's violet eyes. 'I'm sorry, I just...' Bart said, not finding the correct words, 'I couldn't protect you. I didn't know what to do.'

Shadow looked at Bart, nodding.
"It's ok..." She murmured, and then her gaze turned to Raven.
"I smell demon on you..."

Bart let the conversation begin. He stood silent, not knowing really what to say. He stood up, and looked through the medicine shelves, in search of things they could use for the journey. He kept the needle and stitch string. He also took the anaestetic and the syringe, and shoved them in a pocket, careful of taking the needle off the syringe so that he wouldn't get jabbed by it.

The twins kept their conversation in harsh whispers of another language, Shadow getting angrier and angrier until her breath stalled and she had to stop to be able to breathe again. Raven just smirked and vanished.
Shadow closed her eyes, and wiped away an angry tear.

Bart noticed that Raven went away. He turned around, walked to Shadow, and sat next to her. 'I'm... still...' Bart said, looking in Shadow's violet eyes, 'Sorry.'
He looked at the ground as his face darkened. 'I said that I would protect you, but I didn't, not even the first time we got attacked.'

Shadow looked into Bart's eyes, and she scowled slightly.
"There wasn't much you could have done." She said as sternly as she could manage. "You had just been injured."

With a grimace, she sat up, one hand on the wound.
"We should continue..."

'Continue, in this state?' Bart said, shocked, 'But, imagine if the killer is still out-'
Bart felt uneasy. His head turned. The lights were getting dimmer by the second.
D*mn, Bart thought, lost too.. much... blood...
Bart fell onto the ground, making a loud thudding noise. His previously red eyes went pitch black, and his eyelids closed.

Shadow swore in her mind in every single language she knew as Bart fell. She hadn't realised that he had lost so much blood, but now she could see it, in great pools on the tiled floor. She gritted her teeth against the pain as she knelt beside him. She summoned her magic, directing it to cover Bart's wounds. She concentrated her mind on healing her friend, her eyes slightly narrowed.

Bart could hear the same sentence over and over again.
Nobody went out... like the walls moved...'
He could see the battle, in slowmotion this time. He could hear his footsteps on the ciment flooring. He could smell the scent of blood. His blood. He was lying on the floor, curled up as a baby in it's mother's womb. He lay in a puddle of dark blood, but he had no wounds.
Don't die... he heard, echoing. He sat up on the cement road, rubbing his head. 'Owww...' he moaned. He looked around, only seeing a red liquid. He then stood up, gagging. He saw the dark and eerie figure. Don't die... it repeated. The figure slowly grinned.
Bart awoke in shock, his eyes blazing red. A small trickle of blood dropped from his mouth. He squeezed the middle of his thorax with one hand.
'Don't let me die here...' he repeated, looking at Shadow, before falling down once again, unconscious.

"I won't let you die." Shadow promised him, getting to her feet and running around the emergency room, ignoring the pain in both her hearts. She couldn't worry about that now.
I don't have the energy to heal him completely, but I can at least use my medic training... She thought to herself, grabbing the equipement she needed.

After disinfecting the wound, she took a compression pad, applying it to the wounds, trying to staunch the bleeding. She could see that he had lost a lot of blood. Too much blood. Shadow narrowed her eyes, grabbing an empty syringe. She stuck it into her arm, drawing blood into it. She knew that there would be a few side effects over a few days because of the demonic part to her blood, but it would help. She injected the blood straight into his heart, followed by two more. Her head felt light, but she forced herself to concentrate.

She continued to apply pressure to Bart's wounds, praying that her blood would help him. The bleeding was slowing, and she started to stich the wounds after injecting some local anaesthetic around them. Once she had finished, she laid a finger on his forehead, murmuring a spell that would hopefully bring him back from unconsciousness.

Bart felt his heart beat. A slow, but loud thump echoed in the blackness of his nightmare.
I'm... still alive, he thought. But there was something wrong. The blood his heart was pumping... wasn't his.
The Kraferr isnstincts immediately made Bart wake up abruptly. His eyes shook intensively. He was gasping for air, his left hand sprawled over his thorax, squeezing tightly. Kraferrs had a body instinct to release short shocks of adrenalin when an intruder is present in the body, as it starts to wipe it out. Bart quickly looked at Shadow, then noticed the syringe. He picked it up, and analyzed it. It was used again, and not by him. Bart looked at Shadow again, his red eyes glistening. 'You...' he stuttered, 'You...'
Bart looked at the ground. 'You...' He couldn't speak.

"I had to give you some of my blood." Shadow murmured, looking at the bloodstained ground. "You had lost so much. I'm sorry." She stood up, her head still bowed, and made her way over to the window, gazing out. Her secondary heart was beating rapidly in an attempt to keep up, and her primary heart was still out. None of this, however, showed. The demoness was well practised at hiding pain in normal circomstances.

Shadow ran through the list of possible side effects to the blood transfer. It would be over in a few days, but during those days, he may feel nausea, or his eyes and hair may become slightly discoloured. The only one that was almost certain, and perhaps the most dangerous, was that her blood contained magic, and therefore, he would have a small amount of magic under his control.

- BRB, dinner -

'What will happen to me,' asked Bart, looking at Shadow, 'With this blood that you transferred? Kraferr antibodies are strong, but I doubt they can wipe out demonic blood...' Bart stood up, his thorax aching, and his hand still on it. He put an index on Shadow's neck.
'Your main heart isn't working yet.' Bart said, 'How much time does it take to repair a wounded heart?'

"The demonic blood will wear out within a few days, and the side effects are a little strange..." Shadow said. "My heart won't be healing any time soon." She moved away slightly, doslodging the finger on her neck. She didn't want Bart to realise that her pulse and temperature were too high, even for a half demon.
"My blood is only half demonic. The other half is close enough to human. You might have a couple of magical outbursts, but it won't be too serious."

Magical outbursts, eh? He thought, I hope it's not a serious as it seems to be...
Bart looked around the building. He hoped that Shadow wasn't hiding something dangerous for her. He glanced back, but didn't seem to see anything. A small gust of wind blew through the bulding and shook some glass scattered on the ground.

Shadow's ears twitched slightly.
"We should probably be making tracks before someone realises that we're here..." She said quietly. She looked at all the blood on the ground, Kraferr and Demon. There were certainly going to be a lot of questions asked to the hospital staff...

'You're right,' Bart said, looking at the ground,' But we can't leave this blood here, it'll be suspicious that they find non-human blood on the floor.'
Bart rummaged through the store, looking for a mop, or at least something to wipe out with. He then thought that he would have to take the bloody mop with him afterwards so that the humans don't find out. He found some absorbant paper, and ripped out a few sheets, putting it on the blood. He watched the papers as they went black and red.

Shadow grabbed some more sheets, laying them on the floor.
"I don't think we need any searches going on..." She murmured to herself, replacing some of the soaked sheets with fresh ones.

'Huh, What?' Bart asked, 'I didn't really hear what you said, sorry.'
Bart finished drying off the blood. He took the papers, and looked at the glass. 'We'll still get found out, if they do deep searching, Shadow.'
Bart turned to Shadow, looking in her violet eyes. She's hiding something, he thought, that's for sure. I hope it isn't anything dangerous.

"Let's just hope they don't. They shouldn't be able to find us unless they do a DNA search." Shadow said, running a hand across her forehead. She She took off her cloak, putting it in a small bag that had been slung across her shoulders.

Bart wondered where they could go next, but it wasn't like if they had a plan where to go when the exited the parc. He thought a bit. He already felt the demonic blood beginning effects. He laid a hand on his forehead to concentrate. If the necklace was at northwest, they would have to continue the same way they were before. He looked at Shadow, thinking that he was prepared.

Shadow looked silently at Bart, and nodded once. She leapt silently onto the window ledge, and out into the night. She stopped, looking back at the window as she waited for Bart.

Bart jumped over the broken glass, careful not to damage his wound as it is already weak. He nodded to Shadow, and continued walking northwest. He avoided walking into the lights, and he looked at each road corner to see if there was a consciousness that was there.

Shadow stuck to the... shadows of the streets. Her face was hidden in the darkness, thankfully for her. She drew her arm across her forehead, wiping away some perspiration that had accumulated there.

Bart continued the path, up front. He waited for Shadow to catch up. 'Shadow,' Bart said, 'I just wanted to say that...'
He turned to Shadow, 'Thanks for saving me, despite your wounds.'
