A bad omen...

Vrael nodded, but didn't say why he had asked. Shadow glanced at Bart, mentally thanking him for saving her skin.

Bart stood up, then gazed at the moon. That night, he thought, I thought I was going to die. Well, looks like I'm alive, but I don't know whether it's better or not.
Bart looked at his hand. If I satyed human, he thought, I would've died normally, and nobody would care after a day or two. But now that I'm a Kraferr, I serve a purpose. But this goal might just kill me sooner or later.
Bart knew the relic wasn't far away. Two days walk, at most. The relic was in that forest. But he didn't know how much time it would take to get to the relic, if the rumour is true. It wouldn't be honourable to die in a moving labyrinth.

Shadow also gazed at the moon, wondering about her own destiny. Vrael followed her train of thought.
If I do not help defeat Karthragan in the impending battle for the reign of darkness, then the moon and the sun will be extinguished... He thought.

Bart felt the pain again, and tightened his fists. I really need to control that pain...
He looked at the forest. A dark, deep forest. Dangers that would kill you in less then the blink of an eye probably lurk there. Well, that's cute.

"Are you sure you do not require assistance?" Vrael asked, seemingly looking at Bart.

'I'm fine, Vrael,' Bart said, quietly, 'Thank you.'
Bart looked up at the sky, the high ache in his chest still present. He tried not to show the pain. He looked up at the shining moon, partly hidden between the clouds that were invisible in the dark, cold night. A frisky breeze blew Bart's hair, making his clothes sway gently. It was blowing in the direction that the group and him will have to go.

Shadow turned in a circle before lying down, being careful to not lie on her wound. Vrael sat next to the wolf, taking an arrowhead, a shaft and several feathers out of his quiver and proceeding to fletch some arrows.

Bart flicked out his watch, pressing the 'light' button to be able to see what time it was. 50 minutes 'till, he thought.
Bart sat down, scratching the back of his head. His red eyes glistened in the dark as there was a short noise when he sat down. He stared up at the moon. Still the same figure. He hoped it would be the same in years from now. Bart remembered.
Don't get too pensive, Bart, he thought, or else magic will come sprouting without your consent. Bart sighed, and tipped his head backwards, making his neck crack, as usual.

Shadow shook herself, keeping her grimaces to withing her mind as the muscles in her chest stretched. She knew that acting perfectly dog-like was crucial under Vrael's gaze.

Bart cracked his fingers. He laid down on the cold, gravely ground of the street. He looked up at the shining moon, with the same figure as before. He smirked, but thought of something else.
What if, he thought, what if the Kraferr body doesn't exterminate the demonic blood? Would I be condamned to be a sub-demon for the rest of my life, acquiring certain capacities? Such as... magic? Bart lifted his hand, looking at the crude claws. His index twitched as he felt the pain in his chest.

Shadow watched with half hearted interest as Vrael fletched his arrows with black and red feathers. She knew where the feathers came from, and exactly how he want about making his arrows. She lay on the grass, sphinx style, her head on her paws. She wondered how much longer she would be able to run from the prophecy, and which path it would take.

Bart flicked out his watch. 45 minutes till, he thought, and he put his hand back into his pocket. He shuffled in his other pocket, and whipped out two elastic bands. One yellow, and one red. He tightened them between his fingers, and flicked at the stretched strings, making a slight 'toing' noise every time he did.
He looked back at the sky, feeling slightly dizzy. He then remembered the bracelets. It's true that they do help, he thought, silver-crafted bracelets. Hm. Wait a second. Damn! If Vrael notices me with these bracelets, I'm freaking done for! And Shadow too!
Bart glanced at Vrael, who was silently fletching his arrows. Bart put away his elastics, and tried to hide his arms from Vrael.

SHadow got up, stretched, and padded over to Bart, tail wagging lazily. She lay down next to him, and followed his gaze to the sky. She started to read the stars, a skill she had picked up in Synairn.

Bart prodded Shadow, and pulled at the bracelets, trying to get her attention, and trying to make her see what he meant. He pointed at his veins, then pointed at Shadow's heart. He then pointed to the bracelets again, and glanced at Vrael. He really hoped that Shadow understood, because that was crucial, for him, but also for her.

Shadow stood up, gently tugging on Bart's sleeve and looking into the forest. She bounded towards the trees for a few paces before looking back at him and bounding away again. Vrael didn't look up, thinking that the wolf was just going to see its master.

Bart fiddled with the bracelets, until he slid them off his arms. At the same instant he took them off, a peaking pain hit his chest, and he curved into a tight ball, moaning. He put the bracelets in his right pocket, the one at the opposite side from Vrael. He still felt the pain, and he clutched his heart against his chest, breathing deeply, but silently.

Vrael looked up sharply from his arrows.
"Bart? What be the matter? Does your wound ail you so?" He asked, his head tilted slightly to one side. He stood up, silently making his way over to him.

'No worries, Vrael,' Bart said, through two gasps for air, 'Kraferr bodies do strong reactions against anormal things. It hurts, but it's-' Bart gasped for air, and nearly speared his skin with his pointy claws against his chest, 'It's worth it.'
Let's just hope, Bart thought, that the visual effects of the demonic blood don't show right now. I really don't want to be... To be... Actually, what WOULD Vrael do if he finds out? Damn, I don't even know. Curse this.
Bart's train of thought got interfered by another sharp pain in his chest. He locked his hand onto his chest. The heart was beating fast. Very fast. At this rate, Bart thought, the Kraferr body will only be able to stand half an hour with a beating rate such as this. The Kraferr body must be having a hard time killing or protecting itself against the demonic blood. Damn.
Bart breathed in deeply. His tail flicked, then slumped onto the ground.

Shadow was watching Bart, and a battle was raging within her mind. The demonic blood must be attacking the human blood to gain control. She bounded back to Bart, throwing her disguise out of the window as she morphed back in mid bound.
"Bart!" She said, sprinting the last few metres. Vrael looked a bit surprised.

A Manticore padded out from the shadows. It noticed the pair and morphed into Alba.
"Sorry I'm late, guys," she apolagised, "Bit of trouble on the way."

Bart looked at Shadow, eyes wide open. Why did she morph back into human? This'll make things much worse.
Bart's train of thought was again interrupted by a peaking jolt of pain in his chest. Bart clenched onto his chest, his claws slightly penetrating his skin. The skin frenzied in the air, whiplashing everything around it. The heart was just beating faster. Bart pulled at a strand of hair. He cursed.
The before-dark-brown-hair was now just a purple strand of hair. He looked at his fur, and it was becoming the same colour. He cursed out loud. The pain started to drift away. He noticed another person come near. Damn, he thought, even more trouble. Bart took a good look at the newcomer, and noticed the person was Alba.
