A bad omen...

'It was the only way to get my heart beating again,' Bart said, looking at Shadow, grinning, 'You did what you had to.'
Bart looked at Shadow, then at the moon, with the same figure. 'And I'm very thankful for that, Shadow.'

Shadow sighed.
"Maybe, but there is always an alternative..." She murmured.

'Shadow,' Bart said, a slight stern tone in his voice, 'What is done is done. No turning back. Don't be sorry about it.' Bart looked at Shadow again, a small gust of wind brushing his hair.

Shadow looked at Bart out of the corner of her eye.
"I couldn't let someone else die like that..." She murmured. "Not again..." She closed her eyes, trying to hold back tears. Tears she hadn't cried for over three centuries.

'Hey, hey,' Bart said, noticing that Shadow felt upset for somewhat reason, 'It's fine, really. If it's for me that you're upset, don't be. I'm not a person to be upset about.' Bart looked at Shadow, brushing an escaped tear from her eye. 'No need to.'

-Kay, see you tomorrow, Shadow.-

"I apologise." Shadow said, reining in her emotions. "One of the few people to treat me like a normal human, my mother, was killed in front of me when I was five years old. She was trying to protect me. Seeing you running towards that person reminded me of that night, and I couldn't just stand by and let you suffer."

Bart's face darkened at the words spoken by Shadow. He didn't really know it felt like, having a dead soul in your family. He put his right elbow on his left arm, and put his face into his palm, a space between the major finger and the wedding finger to let him see. He then looked at Shadow, sighing, 'We should take care of that wound more seriously. C'mere.'

Shadow looked at Bart, wondering if she had been right to tell him about Arella. Her hand strayed to the wound. She could feel the fresh, wet, blood, but tried to ignore it.
"It'll be fine." She said quietly.

'I can't let you go like that, Shadow,' Bart said, 'I don't want the wounds to get worse. Especially that you only have your secondary heart.' Bart said.
'When I was wiping that tear off your face, I could only feel the other heart. Your main heart is still damaged.' Bart looked at Shadow.
'Let me at least stop the blood, Shadow.'

Shadow scowled slightly.
"It'll be a while before my other heart comes back." She said quietly. "There are other things to worry about."

'Shadow,' Bart said, sternly, 'For right now, what's worrying me is you.'
Bart looked at Shadow in her violet eyes, and said, 'In your state, your weakened body won't be able to put up against another craze crisis. I won't be able to stop you then if that happens, and neither will you be able. Please, Shadow, let me help you.'

Shadow sighed.
"I guess you're not going to take no for an answer..." She murmured.

'I most probably won't, Shadow. I don't want to have death on my consciousness.' Bart said, looking at Shadow. 'Lay don so that I can not a strap of cloth around the wound.' Bart said, his red eyes glistening.

Shadow nodded slowly.
"Ok, I'll let you treat me..." She murmured.

Bart carefully pushed Shadow down on the bench. He used his claw-like nails to cut through the thick cloth of his sweater sleeve. Once he finished cutting slightly around it, he jerked at his left sleeve, causing it to rip off, and he took it off his arm. He then posed it onto the bench, and started cutting the sleeve in the middle with his claw. He tore apart the sleeve in one straight line. He checked the length, and thought it was wide and long enough. He crouched near Shadow, unknotting the previous bloody cloth.

Shadow tried to stay as still as possible, staring up at the sky. Her other heart was still beating twice as fast as it needed to, and she could tell that it only had a week left, at most.

Bart lifted Shadow slightly to take the old cloth away. He stuffed it in his pocket, becoming black with blood. He took the other cloth, and laid it under Shadow. He smoothly put Shadow back into her place as he started notting the cloth again, and tightening it as far as he could to stop the bleeding. He then said, 'I hope this one resists...', looking at Shadow, smiling slightly.

Shadow sat up, putting her hand over the wound again.
"It should resist. Thank you." She said, turning her head slightly to look at him.

Bart looked at Shadow, smirking, and beginning to stand up. The smirk became a smile, then a grin. A small gust of wind blew his hair, and his dull coloured clothes. His red eyes gleamed in the darkness of the cold, dark night.

Shadow's head tilted to one side, her face slightly confused.
"Why are you smiling?" She asked.

'Because I feel useful,' Bart said,' For once.'
Lights began to flicker, and dead leaves turned around Bart with the wind, making a morbid dance in the dark night. Bart sighed for a moment, thinking that he should be staying on guard if anything came.

"I'm sure that's not quite true." Shadow said, looking at him fully. "There must have been several other occasions..."

'Most probably,' Bart answered, 'But I didn't feel as useful in those situations.' Bart then checked to his left and right, to see that if no one was coming. He asked, 'Hey, with the amount of blood you transferred, when and what will I be able to do with the magic?'

"It should manifest soon, give or take a couple of hours," Shadow said, "you'll be able to use it like mine. It requires concentration, and an ability to visualise what you want it to do. For example," She raised her hand to chest height, palm facing upwards.
"Within my mind, I can see a small orb or magic above my hand." After a few moments of concentration, it slowly appeared. "You could imagine it attacking something or somone, or seeking something and bringing it to you."

Bart listened and approved. He looked at his hand, slightly trembling. 'Well, that's handy,' he answered, clenching his hand into a fist. He looked up at the sky, and then at the shining moon. He saw the same figure appear. He smirked, then he turned to Shadow, noticing that the cloth wasn't as black as the other one in such little time. But that might be because she didn't use her body much, he thought.
