A bad omen...

"So... what's our next move?" Shadow asked. She didn't want to hang around in one place of the city for too long. She knew that they were going to get attacked again, sooner or later.

'Hum,' Bart said, thinking, and scratching the back of his head with his left hand, 'I guess our only choice -if we want to get closer to our goal- is to continue north-west...' Bart looked at Shadow, then turned his head to the street that laid before them.

Shadow closed her eyes to concentrate for a moment.
"We need to angle our trajectory further north to find it." She said a few minutes later.

'As you say,' Bart agreed, 'We'll go that way, then.'
Bart pointed to a long road with lights hanging over it. 'Or, if you want,' Bart said, then pointing at a dark alley, 'That way, if we want to go faster, but I don't think that's a good proposition...'

"I'd normally go for the dar way, but as you said, it's not a good option. We had best stick to the light and get out of the city as fast as we can." Shadow agreed.

'Right,' Bart agreed, and stepped up front, watching out for any lights. He also stayed cautious, in case a consciousness would appear, or if the attacker would strike again.
'Hey, while we're at it-' bart said, turning to Shadow, 'Did the attacker have anything you could recognize it with? I know it has a black band on the head, and it's pretty trained using the sword and the bow. It also has some speed, but did you notice anything else?'

"I recognised the fighting style, and also the signature..." Shadow murmured. Her face seemed to darken as she thought about this.

'You recognized it?' Bart said, suddenly being worried, 'Then... Whom could it be, Shadow?'
The lamps flickered at that moment, and a gust of wind shook through the trees, whispering it's deathly poem.

"It's no one you want to know, put it that way." Shadow said. "He was an old... collegue of mine."

'If I can't find out whom it is, then,' Bart asked, his eyes glistening, 'At least tell me the motives of this attack, and how did it find us.'
Bart wasn't worried anymore, he was angry. Why didn't Shadow mention that before? It would've at least taken off the pressure on his chest lying.
Did he find out about Shadow helping me on the quest? he thought. No, impossible, she just joined minutes then we got attacked.

Shadow looked at Bart through the corner of her eye.
"I was once an assassin, he was one of the Guild. Every year or so, they send someone to either bring me back, or kill me. It's never more than once a year, but I never know what day until it comes. I say every year, because I usually send them packing, and they try again the next year. Their numbers are stretched too thin."

'So, basically, I can't have anything to do with the fact that you're helping me,' Bart said, turning to Shadow slightly, 'Right?' His eyes gleamed in the cold, dark nightime area. Bart's tail flicked gently, with the frosty feeling of this night.

"It had better not." Shadow growled. "Or I will remove that stupid Lord's head myself."

Shadow's kinda worrying me, Bart thought, I mean, she's just so indifferent for deaths as of now. I don't think I could kill someone. Ever. Even if I really wanted to.
Bart continued to tread the path, keeping in mind that he has to stay alert for any being who appears.

Shadow stared straight ahead of her. Not many people knew about that part of her past. When Holly had found out, she nearly went beserk. Bart hadn't really said much yet, and that worried her.

Bart sang a song in his head. He wanted at least something to think about, and try not to worry or doubt. He tried to stay calm, but it's kinda hard when you have a murderer just behind your back.

Shadow noticed the silence Bart was keeping up. She put her cloak back on, pulling the hood over her face as she glared at the ground, cursing herself in every single language she knew. She lay an hand on the hilt of her sword, keeping an ear out for anything unusual.

Bart jumped on one of the lamps, crouching and sniffing the air. It's most unlikely that he sensed something, he thought, with no wind. He checked with his visual senses his surroundings. Only Shadow and him. He then used his ears, which didn't detect anything in the eerie silence of the cold night.

Shadow stopped under the lamp, and rechecked her bearings, on alert for anything strange or out of place.
"Sense something?" She asked Bart.

- Off to pick up my new puppy! Be back in a couple of hours hopefully -

'Nope, Shadow,' Bart said, jumping off the lamp, whch flickered as he landed in front of Shadow, 'I can't see hear, or smell one thing.'
Bart glanced right and left.

"I can't sense anything either..." Shadow said, her eyes narrowed in concentration.

'Good,' Bart confirmed, 'That means there' probably no danger anywhere close.'
Bart continued walking, passing a closed bread shop. The cold wind shook Bart's hair and clothing, and the lights flickered as if they were crickets snipping in the night.

Shadow walked slightly behind Bart, glad that they were close to the outskirts of the town. Her senses stayed on alert, and she seemed to be jumpier. Everytime a tree rustled, a hand would fly to the hilt of her sword.

Bart looked at a building, in which a window was open, and a light blasted out. He smirked, and then turned to Shadow, and said, 'Let's see if you have good camouflaging skills, Shadow,' Bart said, pointing to the lit and open window, 'Pass under that without being detected. Don't worry, of course there is someone on the window ledge.'
Bart stepped backwards, fading into the darkness of the night, and continuing to tread the path, still looking at Shadow. He jumped slightly sideways, and then jumped backwards onto his hands, and started walking on them, to make as least noise as possible. He hid in the darkness. Once he was out of the window's visiona ngle, he jumped back onto his feet.

Shadow raised an eyebrow slightly, wondering what the point of this excersise was. She thought for a moment, and morphed into a wolf, slinking past the window.
