Coping. (Post Prophecy)

Shadow thought for a few moments.
"Hmm..." She looked down at her letter, "Lord?"

"Catchy," Bart replied, smiling slightly, "But that's more to be knida weird for people at school. They'll be like, 'You're not a lord!'" Bart said, flailing his arms around, imitating the stupid classmates he had before, "But we could take another word for that. Seigneur... No. Despot would be cool, but I think everyone knows that."

Shadow leant back, tapping her pen lightly against her arm as she thought about possible last names.
"Wolf, Swordhand, King, Cross, Feather, Naiad, Williams, Nightmare, Merchant, Bay, Harkness, Harper, Sato, Cooper, Jones..." She said, rattleing off any names that came into her mind.

- Completely random, taken from around my room, lol -

"Apple, Brown, Misochi, Lafaye, Laurn, Uderzo, Karmachovinski, Seill, the list goes on," Bart replied, looking downwards, counting the numbers on his fingers, "But we need to find one out of the many. We can take a common one to be confused with others, no?"

Shadow nodded once.
"I'm not much use at common names I'm afraid," She said, trying to think, but coming up with a blank. She'd always come across common names in her own dimension, but never on earth. She sighed. This was going to take a long time...

"Let's see. Names I've seen lots of times are..." Bart answered, pointing at the ceiling, and turning his finger around. He looked at the ceiling, "Dupont, Dupuis, Karma, Rodabush, yes, I'm serious here, Then there's... Er. The word 'Le' in front of any word, or the word 'Du' in front of any word."

"De Gaulle?" Shadow asked, remembering one of the very vague earthern history lessons she had received back in her own dimension. She sighed, shaking her head again.

"Eh. Neodammeraus sounds better then that," Bart answered. His eyes widened. "Neodammeraus... If we shortened it a bit, we could have a pretty nice and original last name... What do you think, Shadow?"

Shadow thought for a moment before nodding.
"If we shourtened it, yes, otherwise it would be a bit of a mouthful..."

"Neodammaus... Nedammas. Nedammas?" Bart asked, turning to Shadow. "Is Nedammas an appropriate last name? I mean, it wouldn't sound like if we were french, but no one has to know, eh?"

Shadow ran the name thorugh her mind several times before turning her violet gaze back to Bart, nodding.
"Well, no one could exactly say that we were normal, so yes, it would work."

I guess, yeah.
Bart turned to Shadow. he approached her, looking at her deeply in the eyes, approaching his face dangerously close to hers. He looked up and down. "Hey, wait," Bart begun, "Talking about weird, you'll need to find something to hide that colour in your eyes. There's no such thing as a purple gene for eyes."

Shadow frowned, thinking.
"Give me two minutes, ok?" She said, getting up and going through to her room. She grabbed a book and a torque before hovering in the middle of the room, book open at a certain page and the torque hovering over her palm.

Bart followed, seemingly interested in what Shadow was going to do next. He looked at her, not really sure what she was going to do. He scanned her, then hoped that no windows were open, because seeing a floating fifteen year old wasn't a normal sight.

Shadow began to murmur words from the book, in a different language, weaving a web of magic around the torque with the words of a spell, concentrating hard on what she was doing. Wraith sat in the doorway, watching Shadow with her tail wagging slightly. Shadow was concentrating so hard that she didn't realise that Bart was there in the room.

Bart raised one eyebrow, trying to see what Shadow was doing, but in vain. He didn't move, not trying to deconcentrate her. Maybe she needed concentration, and Bart wouldn't want to break it if she ever did. He kept looking, trying to understand. A book, a torque, what else? What is she going to do?

Shadow barely seemed to breathe as she murmured the words in a seemingly endless stream. The web of magic around the torque grew ever more intricate until Shadow finally stopped chanting about ten minutes after she had started. She reached out a hand palm facing upwards, and the torque came to rest on her hand. She stood up, and jumped about five feet in the air as she saw Bart.
"Why did you follow me?"

"Er..." Bart answered, "Well, I would normally say I just walked into this room at the very moment you noticed me, but I would be lying," Bart continued, not really knowing what to say, "I dunno. I thought you were going to do something about your violet eyes, or something. Did I see or hear anything that shouldn't of been? If I did, I'm completely sorry. I didn't know. And, anyways, I didn't understand a word you spoke..."

Shadow sighed, looking sideways at the floor.
"I don't like people watching me when I use complicated magic like that." She said. "I'm not even supposed to be using it." She raised her hand, showing the torque. "This will cast an image around me to hide everything abnormal." Her tail waved lazily behind her, and she glanced at it. "Including that, although it'll only be hidden, not taken away."

Bart gave out a sigh of relief. He then looked back up at Shadow. "You mean, it'll be possible to feel it? That's... pretty bad. This is going to be more complicated than I thought..." Bart looked downwards, trying to think of something. If ever my Kraferr transformation manifested itself, I would be really in deep sh*t.

Shadow nodded once.
"Yes, but hopefully I'll be able to keep it under control..." She said, sliding the torque onto her arm. Once it sat in place, halfway up her upper arm, the transpormations took place. Thz white streaks vanished from her hair, her eyes turned a stormy grey, her skin took on a more natural colour and her tail vanished.

Bart gazed at Shadow, seemingly impressed. He scanned her, and smiled. He looked at her from head to feet, not missing a single detail. "You look..." he began, smiling at Shadow, "You look..." Bart tried to find his words correctly.

"Human?" Shadow suggested, tucking a stray lock of black hair behind a now round-tipped ear. She smiled slighty. "Know that this is only an illusion. As soon as I take off the torque, the illusion vanishes, and I look like a..." She paused, trying to find the words. "Well, like a freak."

Bart looked up at Shadow.
"No, you don't look like a freak!" he exclaimed, "When you take off that torque, you look like I would like you to look! You look beautiful when you're normal!"
Bart then opened his eyes wide. What did he just say? Oh Christ, he didn't think before acting. He looked back at Shadow. he didn't really know what to say now. He wondered what Shadow was going to do. He closed his eyes tight.

Shadow stood, eyes wide, stunned.
Did he just say what I thought he said? Her mind was trying desperately to convince her one way or another. Subconsciously, she raised a hand to her temple, trying to calm her emotions down before they got out of control and she went into power surge.
"What?" Was the only word that managed to come out of her mouth, and the personified Knowledge in her head was whacking her head off her desk, wondering why her unified self couldn't come up with anything more sophisticated.
