Coping. (Post Prophecy)

"We all need to recover." Shadow said after a few moments' thought. She looked down at Wraith, the only being in the room who had escaped any injury.

Bart and Dominique nodded once. Now, Bart really didn't know what to do. All of this had mixed up his mind. He tried to think of something to say, but nothing came into his mind.
Dominique stood silent. She thought, also, but got ideas. But she didn't say any of them. "Talking about that shade..." she began, "Can you explain more on it?"

Shadow sighed, searching in his memory.
"He was tall, I think, shrouded in black clothing. He was carrying a scythe and his eyes were yellow..." She said, trying to think of any more details. "He spoke like he wasn't from this time..."

"That doesn't remind me of anything," Bart said, putting one hand up to his chin. "Me neither," Dominique answered, lifting one eyebrow. "You think..." Bart began, "That he wpuld be dead, or something? Maybe that would be a reason why you couldn't see it, Dominique," Bart answered.
"Yeah, I guess, but then, why would Shadow be able to see it?" Dominique asked.
"Because she already died," Bart replied, "Well, in a way, really."

Shadow thought for a few moments.
"Maybe I could see him because I've already died, or maybe it's because of the fact that I'm the heir to the throne of darkness..." She said thoughtfully, trying to think of other reasons, but coming up with a blank.

"I guess so," Bart answered, still thinking, "He didn't mention his name, if I've heard correctly, but he knows yours. How did he bring me back to life? And you said you traded one half of your life. Do you even know what half of your life represented?" he asked, doubtingly.

Shadow shook her head slowly.
"I don't really know what happened about the life thing. It could be that he took away the fact that I'm immortal to time, or it could be that he's taken half of eternity. I don't know..."

"Half of eternity is kinda hard," Bart said, arcastically, "He most probably made you mortal, or something, I dunno," he continued, still thinking, still dizzy. He tried to figure out who would do this sort of thing, and why. "Did you hear any other words come from the shade's mouth? Like, something that would say what it is? Or maybe its goal?" he asked.

Shadow searched her memories of the encounter, trying to think.
"He talked about 'pleasing the gods' but that's all I can really think of right now."

"Pleasing the Gods?" Bart asked, to himself, "That means it's some sort of... Religious creature, or something. I dunno."
Dominique put one hand to her forehead. "Can we stop talking about this? It makes me feel uneasy, for some reason," Dominique asked.
"Right," Bart answered, it must be the side effects of the events that happened not so long ago. I know how it feels," Bart answered, putting a hand up to his forehead, feeling dizzy.

"You're telling me," Shadow said, putting a hand to her temple, trying to clear out the fog that was shrouding her recent memories. She shook her head, Wraith licking her other hand gently.

Bart nodded, and sat next to Shadow on the table. Dominique sat onto the table next to Bart. They both sighed together, their hands still on their forehead. Bart was thinking, now what? And Dominique was thinking, what now?

Shadow took a short breath, sighing. All she wanted to do really was fall asleep and not have to wake up to cough up her blood-filled lungs. She closed her eyes, one arm over her newly repaired ribs protectivly.

Bart lowered his head, thinking. As he saw Dominique lie down onto the couch, he then lifted his eyebrows, and turned back into the twins' room, opening the door slowly, then closing it back slowly, but fully. Dominique closed her eyes. Bart advanced to the bed, and then lied on his back, thinking, his arms under his head as a cushion. He stared into blankness, thinking.

Shadow slowly got up, following Bart's example as she walked to her room, head bowed. Curling up in her basket, the demoness thought back to the recent events.
So much for keeping out of trouble. She thought, Oh well...

Bart kept himself awake with his thoughts. What if I become demonic again? It feels weird, becoming something, and you do'nt even know it... It also feels weird to come back from near death. What was that shade? A ghost? What would a ghost be doing there? Ghosts don't exist. Well, before I thought vampires didn't, and they do, so why not ghosts? I do'nt know, it just seems impossible. As impossible as drinking blood can serve as a meal. I got a point there.

Shadow slept on quietly, Wraith taking up her patrol along the few corridors of the flat, her ears pricked for any possible interruptions. Suddenly, the wolf started barking madly, seeing a dark, humanoid figure at the window.

Wraith's barking alerted Bart, and he swiftly rolled out of bed, catching himself on one leg, then opening the door quickly. Dominique had her eyes shot open, and she instantly jumped off the couch, and stood up, trying to recognize the dark figure. Bart approached, in a guarding position. Since the figure was against daylight, he couldn't see it completely.

Shadow had also sprinted out of her room to see the figure opening the window. The demoness had a sword drawn and at the ready, but the girl raised her hands, her brown eyes unafraid of the demoness.
"I'm just a messenger," Kia said, giving a small half smile.

Bart lifted one eyebrow. A messenger? From... The assassins, if I don't miscontrue? He then stood up slowly, normally. He looked at the girl with sceptical eyes, as did Dominique. Bart then turned around. The message isn't for me, probably. Actually, surely. Dominique sighed, and dropped her offensive stance, and sat on the couch with a loud thump.

Shadow sheathed her sword again, nodding her head once at the girl.
"Fawn," She said, addressing the assassin messenger with her 'code' name.
"Wolf," Kia replied.
"Well, give us the message," Shadow didn't sound too pleased at the prospect of having the assassin in her home.
"The Lord's not happy. He's planning an ambush on this place. He can't know that I came to warn you, ok? You watched my back when I wasn't old enough to defend myself against the other assassins. I'm here to repay the favour."

Bart's eyes widened. Now, it actually concerned him. The 'Lord' seems to know a lot of things, in a very small lapse of time. He must have some sort of spies everywhere, or at least a mental link. Dominique also widened her eyes, slightly shocked. Bart sighed, disappointed.
"Hat guy's never going to let us go, is he?" Bart asked, sarcastically. He didn't expect an answer. "In how much time should the attack come, 'Fawn'?" he asked, using what he thought was the girl's real name.

Kia glanced at Shadow, still considering the demoness as a higher ranking assassin.
"Answer him," Shadow prompted the girl.
"He's planning the attack to be the following night." Kia said quickly.

"That leaves us some time," Bart said, glancing at his watch attached to his right wrist, as always. He frowned slightly, then put his right hand into his pocket. He glanced at the girl, then turned his look to Shadow. He lifted his eyebrows, and nodded slightly. "If I may ask, what rank of assassins?" he then said.

Kia looked down at her feet.
"The elite," She said quietly. Shadow swore, starting to pace.
"He's risking a lot by sending the elite after us," She said, more to herself than anyone else.
