Revenge

"I only saw her on her own, so I don't know about family problems." Nightmare mused aloud, thinking. One wing twitched slightly and the angel extended it, curving it around her so that she could comb the feathers back into place with her fingers.

"I know about her family problems," Alex replied, "But I didn't know that. I never really suspected it." Alex's head fell. "I think I'm too used to be with the dead than the living..." He turned his thumbs one around the other.

"You probably are, if your behaviour with your classmates is anything to go by." Nightmare agreed. "She might just need someone to talk to when she can get her ideas straight in her head."

"But you know I can't speak to her about this!" Alex replied, "First, I don't know how to speak to girls. Second, how the heck would I explain that I know?! She always hides it under a turtle neck or a shirt!"

"I don't know!" Nightmare said. "I'm not someone's fairy godmother or some sort of guardian angel!" The dead anger paused. "Hm... Idea..."

"And what would this idea be?" Alex asked, "And please don't say, 'you'll see' because or else, I'm seriously going to throw my maths book at you. Even though it'll break the window behind."

"You'll see." Nightmare said, grinning. She unfurled her wings again, taking off, heading for Fabrice's house. She had a suspicion, a vague suspicion that if Fabrice was holdong one of her feathers, then the girl might be able to see her.

A loud yell could be heard, and followed by a loud banging.

Fabrice was found looking at the feather curiously on her desk. She was frowning, trying to understand why this feather had appeared out of nowhere. She turned it around in her hands, and sighed, pulling her lip to one side.

Nightmare smiled as she flew, landing outside Fabrice's window. She watched as the girl held her feather, and prayed that her suspicion was correct.

Fabrice sighed again, and lifted her head from the mysterious item that she was holding. Her eyes widened, as she saw a girl on the balcony of her room. But what surprised her the most, was that this was a girl with wings. Shock made her jump backwards, pushing her chair along with her. She gripped on the feather tightly, and she frowned, trying to breathe calmly.

Nightmare walked into the room, her head tilted to one side.
"Can you hear me?" The dead angel asked, trying to seem friendly.

Fabrice frowned at the girl, and took one step back as Nightmare took one step forwards. Fabrice lifted one eyebrow. "Yes, I can hear you," she answered quickly, "What are you doing here? Who are you? And, most importantly, what are you?"

Nightmare smiled.
"I can answer all your quiestions with one answer. I am your guardian." The dead angel said serenely, and trying not to laugh at the thought of a guardian angel called Nightmare.

"My guardian?" Fabrice repeated, lifting one eyebrow, "What the heck's that supposed to mean?" Fabrice didn't notice, but she had gone out of her emergency position, to stand up straight, like any normal person would do when acknowledging someone's identity.

Nightmare rolled her eyes mentally.
"Like, guardian angel? You know, the angel that's supposed to watch over you when you're in trouble? Yeah, they don't all have white wings and blond hair, but there you go."

"What?" Fabrice asked, "I didn't even think those existed!" Fabrice frowned, and looked away, with the feather in her hand. She looked at Nightmare. "Does this feather have something to do with you?" Fabrice asked.

Nightmare nodded once.
"The feather is one of mine," She said with a gesture to her wings, "As long as you hold it, you'll be able to see me, but once you let go, you won't see me, although I'll see you."

"Understandable," Fabrice muttered, "But why me? And why come only now?" Fabrice asked quickly. "I mean, I'm just a person like any other you might see in this city."

"Someone sent me." Nightmare said simply. "Someone who thought you needed me." The angel smiled, trying to seem motherly.

"Who, God?" Fabrice asked, "He should get some guardians for each of those kids who are dying of hunger, not me. I don't believe in him, sorry, I'm atheist. Who, and answer precisely," Fabrice demanded.

"Can't tell you exactly who, but I can give you clues." Nightmare said, "The class see him as a freak, someone who says he can see the dead."

"Alex?" Fabrice asked, "I don't believe you. I don't treat him as a freak, fine," Fabrice replied, "But I cannot believe that he can see the dead. He was probably just confused at one point. But no one can see the dead."

Nightmare shrugged.
"Suit yourself, but that would explainw why I'm here." The dead angel said, "Ater all, if he couldn't see the dead, how could he have sent me here?"

"I don't know, because I don't believe it is Alex who sent you, as much as I believe it is God who did. Unless what he was saying is true..." Fabrice drifted off. "What am I saying, seeing the dead is impossible! They're not material, and we can't see anything immaterial."

"Ahem, right here," Nightmare said, rolling her eyes mentally again. "Anyways, through various means, I am here, and I'm supposed to be watching over you."
