Coping. (Post Prophecy)

Shadow whimpered quietly as the pain from ripping out her stitches set in. She got up painfully, limping to get some thread from her medical kit on one of the shelves to resew the wounds.

Bart opened at Shadow's room, hearing some noise, the eyebrow raised. He carefully put Dominique on the couch, hoping that she wouldn't wake. "Don't move," he whispered to her. He then turned around to Sadow, walking over to her room. "Need some help?" Bart asked.

Shadow, still in her room, gritted her teeth.
"I don't think so," She answered, cutting the thread after one stitch.

Bart lifted one eyebrow and shrugged halfheartedly. He turned around, facing away from Shadow's room, and he padded over to where Dominique lay. He also raised one eyebrow as he saw that Dominique didn't move from where she was before. That surprises me... He looked around, and then let his arms drop in a big sigh. I won't bother her. I going in the twins' room. Bart turned around once more, and headed over to the twins' room, opening the door, and closing it behind him. The sheets of the bed were slightly messed up, as Dominique squirmed before her sleep. Bart lied down on the bed, his arms raised behind his head.

Shadow snapped the thread on the last stitch nearly an hour later. She sighed, putting away the materials she had used, rubbing her temples lightly so as not to disturb the other wounds, making a mental note to kill the assassin Lord next time she got the chance.

Bart shifted quietly and slowly on the bed to get a more comfortable position for sleep to come, but it seemed that it had missed to catch its train, and was a few hours late. Bart rubbed his eyes tiredly, but, even though he was almost dead in his mind, the eternal sleep wouldn't come into his mind. He softened on the sheets, looking up at the ceiling. Maybe if I stare a long time at nothingness, maybe it'll come...

Shadow got up, walking as siletnly as she could to the kitchen, getting a glass of water. As she drank it, she leant against the sink, thinking about random things.

Bart sat up quickly, closing his eyes. He let out a huge sigh, and he hit his head twice with his fist. "Gah, Bart," he murmured to himself, "Normally, you were the best sleeper in class... Next to some others, of course... Why can't you sleep now?..." Bart slid off the bed, and stood up, aching his eyes.

Shadow sighed, running a hand through her coal black hair and walking over to stand next to the window, surveying the night. She wondered what her clan was doing, and what the Guild was plotting. She leant her head against the window, the small gem between her eyes making a small clinking noise as it made contact with the cool glass.

Bart went out of the room. I need to tire myself out, he thought. He walked in circles outside the room, and then went into the living room, where Dominique was sleeping, on the couch. He smirked, lifting one eyebrow. Bart turned his head to the demoness, his dirty blue eyes glinting faintly in the smoothe darkness of the area.

Shadow didn't look up as Bart entered the room, lost in her thoughts. Her head was slightly bowed as she gazed out of the window, watching the street. Her violet gaze was far away, her hair tucked behind one pointed ear.

Bart blinked multiple times, and he breathed quietly. He felt slightly cold in the demeure, and he shivered, putting his arms up to hug himself. Not being able to go kraferric is pretty bad, once you're used to the warm fur that covered your body when you went kraferric.

Shadow shook herself from her thoughts, and looked round. She spotted Bart there and tilted her head to one side questionnongly.

Bart jumped as Shadow noticed him. He put a and to his beating heart. He was sometimes afraid by Shadow's stare in the darkness. He shook the toughts away, and looked back at Shadow. "Oh, I'm..." He began, "...Sorry, I didn't want to disturb you..." He lifted one hand to scratch the back of his head.

Shadow smiled slightly.
"It's ok, I couldn't sleep. You weren't disturbing me."

Bart continued scratching the back of his head, ruffling his brown hair, black in the present darkness. "Ah," Bart replied, "I feel comforted by that answer." He stepped once towards Shadow, looking downwards. "Couldn't sleep either," he explained, "I need to waste all my left energy, even though it seems I don't have any..."

"Join the club," Shadow replied tiredly. She sighed, turning her gaze to look out of the window again. Her mind was going through all the events of the last week, and bit her lip. Everything had changed in such a short space of time.

Bart looked out of the window as well. He stared blankly out of the glass, his dirty sky eyes glimmering in the darkness, under the few strands of hair that fell over his eyes. He blinked once, feeling a lock of hair in his eye. He quickly pushed it out, and pulled it behind his ear.

"I can't help but think that he's still out there, waiting to take his revenge..." Shadow murmured quietly. She turned her violet gaze to Bart. "It's still hard to think that I'm in control of my life now."

"Well," Bart answered quietly, "Believe it or not, you are now." Bart felt a hand on his shoulder, and he quickly turned around, shaking the hand off, only to see that Dominique was standing behind him. Bart put a hand to his chest, his heart thudding. "Dominique," he muttered, "Don't do that. Ever. Again. I'm still human, you know..."

Shadow smiled at the scene between the pair, shaking her head. She decided not to say anything about Dominique's little problem from fear of breaking the atmosphere.

Dominique looked back at Bart with sad eyes. Bart stood up straight, and lifted one eyebrow. "What?" He asked. "Did I say something wr-" He was interrupted by Dominique, as she launched herself onto him, hugging him tghtly. Bart wanted to protest at first, but then thought again, and accepted it cautiously. He poked her head, which was at his stomach level, squeezing itself against him. He sighed again, as Dominique's arms tightened around his body. He blushed slightly, but, in the darkness it wasn't visible.

Shadow smiled slightly, watching the pair. These two were her family now, even if they were a slightly dysfunctional family. Despite the fact that demons were supposed to be solitary creatures, she always felt the need to be with a family that accepted her.

Dominique snuggled deeper into Bart's stomach, and he stepped back once, Dominique still clinging at him, with all her strength. Bart looked up at Shadow, and rolled his eyes. He brushed one lock of hair in his view, and he pulled it behind one ear. He lifted his eyebrows at Dominique, who had closed er eyes.

Shadow closed her eyes, turning away and shaking her head. She opened her eyes to gaze out of the window again, thinking.
