Memory Lane (Shadow and Holly)

Holly opened her mouth several times and closed it again.
"But...."
That was the end of that sentence.
"You should feel more guilty at leaving me!" she insisted, "I'll just be a quivering wreck without you Shad!"

"And you'll be a quivering wreck with me here Holly." Shadow said.

"I won't!" Holly lied, "I'll ... I'll try not to be ... but the fact of the matter is, I haven't paid you back for saving my life all those times, and I promised I would, so you aren't going anywhere without me."
As if this settled the matter.

Shadow looked over her shoulder, violet eyes impassive.
"I'm sorry Holly." She said, just before she disappeared.

Holly stared at the spot Shadow had been in just moments before, willing her to appear again.
"Shadow....?" Holly called, admittedly scared, "....Roth?"

Shadow appeared back in Synairn, and she kicked a nearby tree.

A million billion trillion miles away, Holly did the exact same thing, cursing herself for not grabbing Shadow before she left.
She sat against the tree trunk with her head in her hands.

Kia smirked. She was leaning against a tree not far away.

Holly clenched her fists and looked up at the sky, evidently silently cursing Arias. Or someone like that.

"Mad at her then?" Kia said.

Holly jumped nearly six million feet in the air.
"None of your business." she said shortly, "Go away, I'm not in the mood."

"I bet you are mad though." Kia said.

"Do you?" Holly asked unenthusiastically, "That's nice..."

"I know you can get revenge on her if you want to." Kia said.

Holly hesitated.
"I don't want revenge..." she muttered, "But if you know where she went....?"

"Yeah, I know." Kia said.

Holly stood up.
"Where?" she asked eagerly.

"She's back in that place she came from." Kia said.

Holly thought.
"Synarin! Of course!"
She paused.
"Why would you just tell me that ... ?" she asked Kia, eyes narrowed.

Kia shrugged.

"I dunno if I should trust you ... " Holly said slowly, "Assassins aren't supposed to be trusted."

"Then why trust her?" Kia said.

"She's not an assassin at heart." Holly mumbled, "She's not like that. I know her."
Holly fought the urge to say "I thought I did."

"You though you knew her, but actually, she's just hiding the dark secrets from you and showing you what you want to see." Kia said.

Holly glanced at Kia.
"You don't know her. You don't know us. We're friends. Best friends."
