Memory Lane (Shadow and Holly)

"I just said "I give up"." the Captain said, looking confused, "I never wanted to capture you. Dont flatter yourself...demon."

"Well this sucks." Yar commented.
"I-know..." Holly stuttered, the cold getting to her, "Whaddya r-reckon we do?"
"Go swimming?" Yar suggested.
Holly stared.

"Then why bother getting dufus down there to come all the way to Synairn?" Shadow asked.

"DONT BE NOSEY!" the Captain said, and then turned back, "Face it .. in the muggle world....a witch and a demon ... how much do you think Id get for them? Yes, a lot...."

"Im cold." Yar commented.
"You're an i-idiot." Holly commented.

"No, they'd think you were bonkers." Shadow said.

"And if I force magic out of you?" the captain insisted, "They couldnt deny that.....and I know I could force magic out of the smaller one, if not you ..."
He smiled slightly at Shadow.
"Insolent, arent you?"

"Insolent, and in very good control over my powers." Shadow smirked.

"Yes, sure you are." the captain said rolling his eyes, "Why is it you cannot admit defeat?"

"Bit nippy." Yar commented.
"Yep." Holly muttered, "I know I must be crazy, but is there anyway to get back onto the ship?"
"Uhh...nope." Yar said, "Fraid our best bet is to swim to the nearest shore...which would be about fifty miles away."
"I cant swim fifty miles!"
"You're gonna have to try!" Yar said, and began to swim off.

"Because I am not defeated." Shadow said.

The captain sighed.
"You cannot use your magic. You are on a pirate ship headed for goodness knows where ... and you are totally alone. Even though you are alive, Im pretty sure you are defeated."

Holly panicked at the thought of beind left on her own, and with a lot of regret, swam away from the ship.

"No, not really. I don't need my magic to defeat you." Shadow said, although she knew, and she thought this behind impassible walls around her mind, that she was growing weaker without her magic.

"Oh really?" the captain asked, eyebrows raised, "Thats nice...well....make yourself at home....Im not going to bother with you until we stop .. then Ill sell up and be rich ... even if I will only get half."
He seemed to curse himself.

Several confused thoughts were going through Shadow's head.

"Well?" the captain asked, "Go! Go ahead! You arent getting off! So I dont care! So HA! I WON!"

Holly stopped swimming.
"This-aint-gonner-work," she stammered, shivering.
"Do you EVER stop complaining?" Yar asked. Now that the Pirate accent was gone, Holly realised he was English.

Shadow stood up, pondering. She decided to go along with it for now and see where this whole masqerade was going.

"Okay?" the captain asked, and then sighed and hobbled back to his quarters, muttering about demons.

Holly shuddered violently.
"Look, its only another 49 and a half miles!" Yar encouraged.
"SHUT UP!" Holly yelled.

Shadow sighed and took off the heavy cloak that had been hiding her wings. She stretched them gladly.

The captain, who had glanced back for a moment, spluttered and began burbling.
"What the-and ya- what sort of magic is this?"
He stared.
"This is unreal!" he whispered, "Ive changed my mind! I want to keep you!"

"What, never seen a pair of wings before?" Shadow remarked sarcastically.

"Not on a hum- well ... a part human!" the captain said, circling Shadow as best he could with his wooden leg, "Magnificent!"

Holly blinked rapidly. She wasnt cold anymore, she couldnt feel anymore.
Yar swam back again looking concerned.
"Go get..." Holly started, "Go get ... her."
"Who?" Yar asked confused.
"Shadow." Holly said, and blacked out.

Shadow, uable to use her magic, couldn't sense Holly. She looked warily at the captain, wings rustling quietly as she shifted uneasily.

"I CANT SELL YOU NOW!" the captain announced, "I will duplicate you!"
"Someone already tried that." one of the passing crew members commented, and then was on his way.
"THEY WERENT AS SMART AS ME!" the captain announced.

Yar hesitated and then called up onto the ship.
"DAVE, YOU GOT A LADDER?"
Dave threw the ladder down the side of the ship.
If Holly had been concious she might have hit him over the head and said "YOU COULD HAVE DONE THAT ALL ALONG?!"

"Seriously, it doesn't work. You don't duplicate demons." Shadow said.

"Did I ASK a question?" the captain asked.

Yar threw Holly up to Dave (yes, thats right) and Dave set her on the deck.
Yar then (right WTF is with the name Yar? Anyway-) climbed up himself.
"Waters a bit nippy. Dont go in." he warned Dave.
"Okay....what are you doing?"
"She said... "Get Shadow". So Im gonner do that."
"Why?"
"We made a strong connection down there." Yar said.

"No, but I answered it anyway." Shadow said.

"That was kind of you." the captain remarked.

"How are you gonna get her?"
"I imagine with my feet."
"Really?"
"NO!"
