Memory Lane (Shadow and Holly)

"It could be a trap," Holly said wisely, and stepped in front of Shadow, "Okay lads, prove to us who ya' are or we shoot. Or ... y'know ... wands..."
The boys looked at eachother.
"Yeah, that's right."

Shadow drew her wand, intending to keep her other magic in case of emergency.

"Oh yeah." Holly said bragging.
"Yeah, we are your competition," one of the boys said, "And we were wondering where we are..... You reckon this is part of the trail?"
Holly shrugged.
"I dunno.... We should look around a bit."

Shadow gripped her wand tightly, and tried to think.

"I'll check over there...." one of the boys said, and wondered off into the darkness.
"I'll stay with you." the other said to Holly, nodding.

Shadow rolled her eys and strode off as well.

"Okay!" Holly said, not noticing Shadow's departure, "We'll look .... over there..."
She nodded in the opposite direction to Shadow.
"Uh....yeah ... okay..." the boy said, "What was your name again?"
"Bristol. Holly." Holly said distantly, and stepped in said direction, "Yours?"
"George." he replied, going after her.

Shadow vaulted up a tree, and kept a look out, her wand stowed under her robes again.

Holly paused.
"Did you hear that?"
"DO YOU THINK IT WAS A BEAR?!" George whispered, scared.
"Sh!"
There was absolute silence for a moment and then Holly walked on.
"I reckon somethin' bad's gonner happen," she said wisely, "I wish I hadn't of left Roth ... she can't function without me!"

"In case your memory has a loophole, it's the other way round." Shadow said, teleporting behindher friend.

"Didn't catch that," Holly said, smiling slightly, "Don't listen to her ... I'm always having to come save her...."

Shadow rolled her eyes, addressing the boy.
"You do know that she is seriously flirting with you?"

"Are you?" the boy asked Holly surprised.
"Yes." Holly said nodding, and kept on looking around, "Things were going fine 'till you pointed that out though Sugar'o. It's okay, she's just jealous," she added in undertone to George.

"Sensitive hearing Holly." Shadow pointed out again. "You have got to get your ideas straight."

"Ah-ha, sure thing babe," Holly called back from a great few metres away, "Now shouldn't we be uh ... looking around?"

Shadow rolled her eyes and morphed into a wolf, staring to sniff around, trying to pick up the scent of anyone she didn't now know.

"That's better." Holly called back and found herself tripping, as always happened when she tried to do or say dramatic things.
"What the fudging- whoa..."
Holly raised herself onto her elbows to see the cause of the fall.
"Tha's a gravestone." she commented, and indeed it was.

Shadow rolled her eyes, having realised this quite a while ago. She sat down, a memory playing in her head.

"You might have mentioned!" Holly said, rolling her own, "You can't just ASSUME everyone....."
She trailed off. "Whatcha thinkin' about...."

Shadow whined quietly, not changing back. Wolf tears gathered at the corners of her eyes and spilled over.

"Wha.....?" Holly knelt next to her, looking concerned, "What...whats wrong?"

Shadow howled and looked around wildly before racing away.

Holly stared after her in disbelief.
"What's up with her?" George asked, incredibly surprised.
Holly shrugged and ran after her.

The rhythmic pounding of hr paws on the ground allowed Shadow to try and come back to her senses. She slammed on the brakes, out of sight of Holly. Morphing back she curled up in a hollow tree trunk.

"Shad?" Holly called, incredibly confused. She stopped running and looked around.
George came to a halt after her.
"That-chick-can-run." he panted.
