Memory Lane (Shadow and Holly)

Shadow^paced, trying to get her head round the challenge.

"Okay, YOU Think," Holly said, turning now to George.
"Right..." George said slowly, "I vote we ... we .....uhm ...-"
"Stutter?"
"Yeah! No wait...."

"Okay, YOU Think," Holly said, turning now to George.
"Right..." George said slowly, "I vote we ... we .....uhm ...-"
"Stutter?"
"Yeah! No wait...."

Shadow stopped, shook her head.
"I've figured it out."

"YAY!" Holly and George said happily in unison.
"What's the plan chief?" Holly asked.

Shadow looked at the others.
"This is a mental test."

"They're seein' how long it takes for us to start eating eachother arent they?" Holly asked, a little afraid.

"No, they get into our minds, trying to find the weakest one." Shadow said, pacing again.

Holly narrowed her eyes at George and then shifted to the opposite side.
"I don't trust you." she commented, "You look like the weakest one and I dont wanna be around when they start poking about in your mind."

Shadow thought hard, and put up mental defenses. Immediately, the memories stopped. She smiled.
"They're working with our memories..."

"Ahhhhhhhh," Holly said, understanding, "I dont geddit, why would they do that?"

"Because memories unhinge the mind." Shadow said quickly.

"Oh," Holly said quietly, "Rage.... I don't wanna relive my past though .... most of it sucks."

"Exactly." Shadow said.

"I had a perfectly normal upbringing," George commented.
"That's so awesome for you!" Holly said sarcastically, "Look, I'm cold, let's walk about this stupid place till they attack our minds."

"Lucky you." Shadow muttered darkly to George before pacing again.

"I need to pace too!" Holly said suddenly, and paced the opposite direction.
"Ow, my mind," she said for effect, hoping this would encourage the evil dictators to start the proking so it would be over and done with.

Shadow didn't know where the 'evil dictators' were poking, but she was glad they were out of her head. It was privite in there.

"Everybody's mind is private!" Holly said, "ESPECIALLY MINE!"
Of course, this prompted the evil dictators to raid her mind.
"Brats," Holly muttered into the sky, as she relived memories.

"Block your mind Holly." Shadow said.

"Easy for you to say," Holly muttered, "You've had practice, OKAY GET OUT! THAT IS RATHER PRIVATE! How do I do that? How do I block it?"

"Think of only a wall, don't think about anything else. The kind of wall dictates the strength of your mental block. For example, a picket fence is not the most effective thing." Shadow said.

"What about a fence made'o marshmallows?" Holly asked interestedly, and as she thought of this more memories zoomed into her head, "Right okay, that don't work. A wall .... riiiight...."
Hard as she tried, she could not concentrate enough.

Shadow ground her teeth, and set up a defense around Holly's mind.

"That's better...." Holly said returning to the present, "Thank yar..."
